The present invention provides a composition comprising a high content of highly pure, low-cost, and safe carotenoid and a method for industrially producing the same. The present invention also provides functional food, a pharmaceutical composition and a cosmetic product comprising such a composition. The present invention further provides a method for producing a composition containing at least 80% of carotenoid, which is characterized in treating a microorganism culture with extraction using a lower alcohol at 80°C at the lowest or a combination of water and a lower alcohol at 80°C at the lowest, and then washing and filtrating the precipitate obtained from the extract solution with a combination of a lower alcohol and water.본 발명에 의해, 고순도, 저렴하고 또한 안전한 카로테노이드 고함유 조성물 및 그 공업적인 제조 방법이 제공된다. 나아가서는 그 조성물을 함유하는 기능성 식품, 의약 조성물 또는 화장품도 제공된다. 또, 본 발명은 미생물 배양물을, 낮아도 80 ℃ 의 저급 알코올류 또는, 낮아도 80 ℃ 의 물과 저급 알코올류의 조합을 사용하여 추출 처리한 후, 추출액에서 얻은 침전물을 저급 알코올류와 물을 조합한 것으로 세정·여과하는 것을 특징으로 하는 카로테노이드 함량이 적어도 80 % 인 조성물의 제조 방법을 제공한다.
