PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gel composition, as well as a method for producing the same, which requires no heating for preparation, can be prepared even with low-cost equipment, can be formed on a surface of an object or the like in accordance with the shape of the object, is very soluble when put into a mouth, can substantially be tasteless, has smooth physical properties, and is edible and resistant to heat.SOLUTION: A gel composition is provided, as well as method for producing the gel composition, which is obtained by bringing 0.01-2.00 mass% of a calcium-containing aqueous solution, pulverized with a sprayer or the like to have a particle size of 10-2,000 μm, into contact with 0.1-20.0 mass% of an alginate aqueous solution, applied by 10-2,000 μm in thickness to the outer or inner face of a plate or cylindrical thing, food, cooking equipment or the like, at a volume ratio of 0.1-10.0, and furthermore alternately spraying or the like 0.1-20.0 mass% of an alginate aqueous solution, pulverized with a sprayer or the like to have a particle size of 10-2,000 μm, and 0.01-2.00 mass% of a calcium-containing aqueous solution, pulverized to have a particle size of 10-2,000 μm, at a volume ratio of 0.1-10.0 to contact with and laminate on each other.
