A system and a method for detecting an occurrent or forming region of increased electrical conductivity on a human subject's skin surface are disclosed. The system comprises a user interface and a skin surface conductivity detection system. The latter comprises a terahertz transmitter, a terahertz camera for recording terahertz waves reflected off a subject's body, and an image processing unit adapted to execute software code which implements said method. The method comprises receiving image data from the terahertz camera; analyzing the image data for an occurrence of a temporal and / or spatial characteristic featuring an electrical conductivity which is related to a predefined threshold at which a thermal burn of the subject's skin surface at the region is avoided during exposure to an RF field of a magnetic resonance imaging system for imaging the subject; and sending information regarding the analysis to the user interface.
