The present invention relates to an automatic contouring system for an object of a diagnosis image which can robustly extract a contour line of an object, which is to be extracted from a diagnosis image even though a peripheral area having a brightness value similar to that of the object exists, and automatically contour the object such that the object has a contour similar to contour information input by the user, and an automatic contouring method thereof. The automatic contour method for an object of a diagnosis image according to the present invention comprises the steps of: (a) inputting a diagnosis image using a diagnosis image input unit and inputting contour lines of a start slice and an end slice； (b) producing an initial contour line of an intermediate slice according to a shape based interpolation using an initial contouring unit； (c) adjusting an internal area of the initial contour line by using a contour line adjusting unit such that the initial contour line is similar to the shape of the contour line input by the user； and (d) extracting a final contour line of the intermediate slice with a border tracking scheme using a contour line extracting unit.본 발명은 진단영상에서 추출하고자하는 객체와 유사한 밝기값을 갖는 주변 지역이 존재하더라도 객체의 윤곽선을 견고하게 추출하고, 사용자가 입력한 윤곽선 정보와 유사성이 높게 객체를 자동 윤곽화 할 수 있는 진단영상의 객체 자동 윤곽화 시스템 및 그 윤곽화 방법에 관한 것으로, 본 발명에 따른 진단영상의 객체 자동 윤곽화 방법은 (a) 진단영상 입력부를 이용하여, 진단영상을 입력하고, 시작 슬라이스와 끝 슬라이스의 윤곽선을 입력하는 단계, (b) 초기윤곽화부를 이용하여, 형상기반 보간에 따른 중간 슬라이스의 초기 윤곽선을 생성하는 단계, (c) 윤곽선적합부를 이용하여, 상기 초기 윤곽선의 내부영역을 사용자가 입력한 윤곽선의 형태와 유사하게 적합하는 단계 및 (d) 윤곽선추출부를 이용하여, 경계 추적 기법으로 중간 슬라이스의 최종 윤곽선을 추출하는 단계를 포함하는 것을 기술적 특징으로 한다.
