Spray systems and control systems for use with spraysystems are provided. A method of detecting fluid flowthrough a nozzle coupled in fluid communication with asolenoid valve including a solenoid coil and a poppet isprovided. The method generally includes (1) dispensing fluidthrough the solenoid valve and the nozzle, (2) de-energizingthe solenoid coil to close the solenoid valve and control afluid flow through the nozzle, (3) determining a closing timeof the solenoid valve based on a signal from a poppetmeasuring device, and (4) determining a fluid flow valuebased on a time delay between the de-energizing the solenoidcoil and the closing time.
