An image pickup system disclosed in the present application comprises: an image pickup unit (IP); a first calculation processing section (S201); and a second calculation processing section (S202). The image pickup unit (IP) is constituted so as to acquire: first image information (S101); second image information (S102); third image information; and fourth image information (S104), based on polarised illumination whereby polarised light is emitted including an optical component that oscillates in a direction parallel with a first axis of polarisation, and light from a body to be imaged at the same time point, produced by said illuminating light. The first image information (S101) comprises information of the light in a first wavelength band. The second image information (S102) comprises information of the light in a second wavelength band. The third image information comprises information of light in a third wavelength band. The fourth image information (S104) comprises information of light in a fourth wavelength band which is the same wavelength band as a component of said light of said illuminating light that oscillates in a direction parallel with a second axis of polarisation different from the first axis of polarisation, emitted from said polarisation illumination and obtained by reflection from said body to be imaged. The first calculation processing section (S201) is constituted so as to generate first colour image information (S301) using the first, second and third image information.
