The detrashing mechanism 10, in accordance with the present invention, is used for detrashing of stalk-like plants during harvesting. The detrashing mechanism 10 includes a roller 12, a plurality of spring loaded profiled bladesl4 and at least one scrapper plate 16. The detrashing mechanism enables removal of unwanted material such as leaves and other trash from the stalked plants and is disposed on the ground. This facilitates in using an extractor fan with reduced power requirement and provided cleaner output free from unwanted materials.
