A web cutting system is provided for use witha single transfer insert placement mechanism having atleast one puck for transferring a discrete web and acontinuous web feeding mechanism for feeding a continuousweb wherein first and second rollers having substantiallyparallel axes and being aligned with one another form anip at their juncture, an anvil is attached to oneroller, a die is attached to the other roller, a vacuumsource is coupled to one of the rollers, a plurality ofvacuum apertures is formed in the same roller. One ofthe rollers is positioned adjacent to the single transferinsert placement mechanism and to the continuous webfeeding mechanism. The continuous web is applied to oneroller and at least one discrete web is transferred fromthe puck to the same roller after which a die cuttingprocess of the webs occurs at the nip.
