The present invention is directed to a novel use of pyridone derivatives suchasPirfenidone for the treatment of radiation-induced lung injuries. Experimentsindicated that pyridone derivatives can prevent radiation-induced lunginjuries dueto radiotherapy. Such prophylactic and/or therapeutic effects of the pyridonederivatives make it possible to increase therapeutic dosages of theradiotherapy,thereby enhancing the therapeutic efficacy of radiotherapy.
