The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating dementia, containing a Coriandrum sativum extract as an active ingredient. More specifically, the present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating vascular dementia or Alzheimers dementia, containing a Coriandrum sativum extract as an active ingredient. According to the present invention, the Coriandrum sativum extract reduces toxicity of A42 which is a causative substance for dementia, prevents death of neural cells, and improves motor ability. Thus, the pharmaceutical composition can be useful for preventing, ameliorating, or treating dementia, more specifically, Alzheimers dementia, or vascular dementia.고수 추출물을 유효성분으로 하는 치매 예방 또는 치료용 약학적 조성물에 관한 것으로서, 보다 구체적으로는 고수(Coriandrumsativum) 추출물을 유효성분으로 함유하는 혈관성 치매 또는 알츠하이머 치매의 예방 또는 치료용 약학조성물에 관한 것이다.본 발명에 따른 고수 추출물은 치매의 원인물질인 Aβ42의 독성을 감소시키고, 신경세포의 사멸을 억제하며 운동능력 개선 효능을 나타내는바, 치매, 보다 구체적으로 알츠하이머성 치매 또는 혈관성 치매의 예방, 개선 또는 치료에 유용하게 사용될 수 있다.
