A method of forming a dental matrix includes providing a strip of PTFE tape of a length sufficient to cover a portion of a patients mouth during a dental procedure, drying the portion of the patients mouth to which the strip of PTFE tape is to be applied, applying the strip of PTFE tape by stretching the PTFE tape over the portion of the patients mouth to be protected from exposure to substances used in the at least one dental procedure thus causing the strip of PTFE tape to adhere to the patients mouth over the portion to be protected, performing the dental procedure, and removing the strip of PTFE tape from the patients mouth.
