Water-based pigmented preparation, useful in capillary storage systems, comprises at least one pigment, at least one water-dispersible film-forming component and at least one polymeric ether component, where the polymeric ether component has a structure of formula (R1-[C 3H 6O] k-[C 2H 4O] m-[Toc]) (I). R1 : alkyl, aryl, acyl or H k : >= 20, preferably >= 60 m : >= 5, preferably >= 100 and Toc : tocopheryl. An independent claim is included for preparing the water-based pigmented preparation comprising dispersing the pigment in water or in aqueous phase, adding the polymeric ether component, optionally milling the pigment to the desired particle size, adding the water-dispersible film-forming component and homogenizing the preparation.
