A lavage unit tip assembly (650) includes a tip suction tube (730) coupling to a lavage unit suction tube (66) through a bore (706) of a lavage unit suction fitting (702) and a tip irrigation tube (750) having a proximal end dimensioned to engage with and receive fluid discharged from a lavage unit irrigation fitting (676). A void space is located between said tip assembly suction tube and said bore (706) so as to provide for fluid communication between said tip suction tube and said bore. A plurality of spaced apart ribs (708, 710, 712, 714) extend into said void space, said ribs shaped so as to have distal ends located forward of the suction fitting bore and so that, as said ribs extend distally away from the suction fitting, the ribs taper distally away from the suction fitting bore toward said suction tube lumen wall.
