The method involves determining a trajectory of an X-ray source (3) and an image detector (4) of a medical imaging device (10) based on a fixed control parameter by a control unit (8) of the device. An object on the trajectory is located in a space. A determination is made to verify whether the trajectory of the source and the detector do not collide between the source and the object or the detector and the object. Positioning parameters of the object are determined such that the source and the detector do not collide with the object when the risk of collision is verified.
