PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a corneal shape measuring apparatus to be accurately aligned without complexing the apparatus and to allow a corneal shape to be accurately measured. SOLUTION: An output signal of an imaging element 15 is projected as an anterior segment image E on a television monitor 38. Simultaneously, data of the image E is converted into a digital signal, and the signal is stored in an image memory 33. An arithmetic processing unit 35 extracts a pupil of the eye E to be examined from the data of the image, and detects a central position of the pupil. When the central position of the pupil is detected, the unit 35 calculates a deviated amount of an optical path of the examining unit of the eye from that of the central position of the pupil in a vertical plane, and controls a drive means 39 such as a motor, so that the optical paths coincide. When the detection of the central position and the drive of the motor are finished, the unit 35 again detects the central position of the pupil, and discriminated whether or not the deviated amount of the measured optical path of the apparatus falls within an allowed range.
