A 3D model of the body part is created using the object including the marker, the fixing member, and the strut. The method relates to first and second X-ray images of a body part and an object placed between an X-ray source and an X-ray imaging device. The method then determines a first and second set of distances between the projections of the markers or struts, and determines a pre-determined distance between the markers or struts and a distance between the projections. The first and second sets are used to determine first and second 3D positions of the X-ray source and object relative to the X-ray imaging device. The method then aligns the first and second 3D object projections in the 3D reference frame using the marker or strut 3D position relative to the X-ray imaging device in two orientations. The method creates a 3D model of the object based on the 3D object projection.
