The column includes moieties such as antibodies that selectively bind galactin-3. Removal of galactin-3 from mammalian bloodstream by at least 10% may affect inflammation, inhibition of fibrosis formation, reduction of cancer progression, and improvement in various cancer treatments. The device comprises a plurality of columns for removing various elements or one for selectively removing galactin-3 from plasma.
