The present invention relates to an image processing device matching medical images with different modalities and a method for controlling the same. According to the present invention, the image matching is performed after a reference position is designated in advance and a corresponding position is extracted while a pre-designated sectional image of an object is used. A three-dimensional volume image does not have to be acquired in a case where one of the medical images is the sectional image, and fast and convenient automatic matching can be performed, by a cross section being used, even in a three-dimensional volume image. The image processing device according to an embodiment includes: a communication unit receiving a first medical image of the object and a second medical image different in modality from the first medical image from first and second medical devices, respectively and an image processing unit extracting a pre-designated sectional image from the second medical image, extracting a position corresponding to a reference position of the object from the extracted sectional image, and matching the first medical image corresponding to the extracted sectional image and the second medical image with each other.COPYRIGHT KIPO 2016모달리티가 상이한 의료 영상들을 정합하는 영상 처리 장치 및 그 제어 방법에 대한 발명으로, 기준 위치를 미리 지정하고, 대상체의 미리 지정된 단면 영상을 이용하며 대응되는 위치를 추출한 뒤 영상 정합을 하는 것으로, 복수개의 의료 영상 중 하나가 단면 영상인 경우에 3차원 볼륨 영상을 획득할 필요가 없으며, 3차원 볼륨 영상에서도 단면을 이용하여 빠르고 편리한 자동 정합을 하는 기술이다.일 실시예에 따른 영상 처리 장치는, 제 1의료 장치 및 제 2의료 장치로부터 각각 대상체의 제 1의료 영상 및 상기 제 1의료 영상과 모달리티가 다른 제 2의료 영상을 수신하는 통신부, 상기 제 2의료 영상으로부터 미리 지정된 단면 영상을 추출하고, 상기 추출된 단면 영상에서 상기 대상체의 기준 위치에 대응되는 위치를 추출하여 상기 추출된 단면 영상에 대응되는 제 1의료 영상과 상기 제 2의료 영상을 정합하는 영상 처리부를 포함한다.
