The ophthalmoscope (1) has a laser device (2) for laser irradiation of an eye (4), particularly for carrying a photocoagulation on an afterimage (16) of the eye. An illumination unit (5) is provided for illuminating the eye. A camera (6) is provided for detecting an image of the eye. The illuminating unit is arranged for generating visible and infrared light. A control unit (8) is arranged for controlling the illumination unit for generating a light pulse from the visible light and to read out a monitoring picture (18) of the eye detected during the light pulse from the camera. An independent claim is also included for a method for laser treatment of an eye with an ophthalmoscope, particularly for performing a photocoagulation of a background of eye.
