#$%^&*AU2016101037A420160811.pdf#####ABSTRACT The present invention provides a method of isolating at least one diterpene alkaloid in particular with anticancer activity from Aconitum carmichaeli. The method can be used to isolate and obtain for example about four diterpene alkaloids of the vakognavine-type and hetisine-type. Among them is a novel vakognavine-type alkaloid which has not been described and isolated so far. Experimental tests confirmed an exceptional cytotoxicity of the vakognavine-type alkaloid against several cancer cell types. Still further, the present invention refers to a method of treating a subject suffering from cancer by administering a pharmaceutical composition comprising at least one diterpene isolated from Aconitum carmichaelii with the method of the present invention. The present invention further refers to a composition, in particular a pharmaceutical composition, comprising the novel vakognavine-type alkaloid, a method for inhibiting, reducing or preventing the proliferation and/or inducing apoptosis of cancer cells by said vakognavinetype alkaloid and a method of treating a subject suffering from cancer by administering said vakognavine-type alkaloid to the subject. 30
