PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus and a radio frequency or RF power amplifier for suppressing unnecessary heat generation produced by an amplifier and for stably amplifying power.
SOLUTION: An imaging region of a subject 40 is inputted into an operational part 32, and the size of electric power to be outputted to the RF power amplifier 221 is determined from the imaging region of the subject 40. Then, an amplification ratio of the electric power amplified by the RF power amplifier 221 is calculated in accordance with the determined size of the electric power, and the amplifier 2211 used for amplifying the electric power is determined. Change-over of the switch 2212 in the RF power amplifier 221 is carried out.
