PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external composition for improving skin quality and a skin quality improvement method in which skin quality can be practically fully improved.SOLUTION: An external composition for improving skin quality is prepared by using degraded zinc hyaluronate. It is desirable that weight average molecular weight of hyaluronate in the degraded zinc hyaluronate be 10kDa or less. It is desirable that degraded zinc hyaluronate contains per 1 g 50 to 130 mg of zinc. It is desirable that kinematic viscosity of 1% aqueous solution of the degraded zinc hyaluronate be 0.3 to 5 mm2/s.
