The invention discloses a device and a process for enriching and converting biogas to produce a fuel gas with increased thermal efficiency particularly a vehicular grade fuel gas. The process in general comprises (i) dehydrating biogas produced in the biogas digester, (ii) compressing the said dehydrated gas, (iii) contacting the gas so obtained in step (ii) in a packed bed scrubber containing absorber adopting counter current mechanism and water as absorbing agent to enrich biogas by removing carbon dioxide and sulphur dioxide, (iv) drying, finishing and compressing the gas further to produce enriched biogas with enhanced thermal efficiency/high calorific value. The device essentially has a packed bed column containing specific size of packing to ensure higher surface area for appropriate counter currently contact of the gas and sorbent.
