The method comprises generating scan data corresponding to structures in the patients mouth, the structures including at least one tooth and an informational marker indicating the location of a dental implant within the patients mouth. The method further comprises creating a three-dimensional computer model of the patients mouth using the scan data and fabricating a rapid-prototype implant-analog placement structure based on the three-dimensional computer model, the rapidprototype implant-analog placement structure to be fitted on the model of the patients mouth. The method also includes coupling the dental implant analog to the rapid-prototype implantanalog placement structure and registering the rapid-prototype implant-analog placement structure on the model of the patients mouth so as to locate the dental implant analog within the model at a position corresponding to the location of the dental implant in the patients mouth based on the scan data.
