The proposed invention relates to the field of jaw-attached devices, dental implants and implantation instrumentation, and can be used in preparing templates for installing dental implants. The aim of the invention is to increase the precision of alignment between bone tissue topology, oral cavity topology and template prototype topology. This aim is achieved in that a method of preparing a surgical template for installing dental implants involves recording a digital three-dimensional image of the oral cavity, recording a digital three-dimensional image of the template prototype and of x-ray contrast markers which are topologically linked to the template prototype, recording a digital computer x-ray tomogram of the oral cavity with the template prototype installed therein, detecting the images of the markers on the computer x-ray tomogram, and spatially aligning the oral cavity bone tissue topology and the template prototype topology by means of spatially combining the marker images on the template prototype and on the digital computer x-ray tomogram of the oral cavity, wherein the x-ray contrast markers are positioned inside the template prototype, which is made by a rapid prototyping method using at least two materials having varying levels of x-ray contrast. The novelty of the proposed method consists in the positioning of x-ray contrast markers inside the template prototype material and in the preparation of a template prototype with markers by means of rapid prototyping using at least two materials having varying levels of x-ray contrast. A positive effect is achieved in that, in the proposed method, the template prototype is made in the form of a three-dimensional object having a topology which allows for maximum precision during the fastening of the template prototype to oral cavity tissues, and the quantity, shape, dimensions and spatial positioning of the markers inside the template prototype are made to the individual specifications of the topology of a pa
