Disclosed is an apparatus (110) for monitoring methane emissions from a ruminant (204). The apparatus (120) is comprised of means for receiving the ruminants head, a methane monitoring device (116) and a container. The methane monitoring device (116) is positioned proximate to the means for receiving the ruminants head and is arranged to monitor methane (214) in exhaled breath of the ruminant (204). The container dispenses a supplement for consumption by the ruminant (204) in response to a determined level of methane (214) in the exhaled breath.
