PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new humectant.SOLUTION: This humectant comprises a menthol derivative represented by general formula (1) (in the formula, R is a 2-5C alkylene group which may be substituted with one or more kinds selected from a methyl group and a hydroxyl group, and n is an integer of 1-3), or p-menthane-3,8-diol.
