PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device accurately adjusting the speed of rotation of a light chopper.
SOLUTION: The light chopper 40 is rotated around an axis parallel to the light path of the illumination light emitted from a light source 32 as indicated in the arrow A. If an opening M of the light chopper 40 is on the light path of the illumination light, the quantity of the illumination light passing through the light chopper 40 is the maximum. If a shading area S is on the light path of the illumination light, the illumination light does not pass through the light chopper 40. The actual rotation cycle of the light chopper 40 is detected based on the change of the intensity of the illumination light passing through the light chopper 40 indicated by an output signal, and the speed of rotation of the light chopper 40 is adjusted so that the actual rotation cycle accurately coincides with a target rotation cycle.
