The invention relates to an antimicrobial mixture containing 4-(3-ethoxy-4- hydroxyphenyl)butan-2-one and an aromatic alcohol chosen from a phenoxyalcohol of formula (I) C6H6-0-R-OH, R denoting a divalent hydrocarbon-based radical having 2 or 3 carbon atoms； phenylethyl alcohol； benzyl alcohol； and a cresol compound of formula (I) in which R1 denotes H or an isopropyl radical； and also to a cosmetic composition containing such a mixture.
