The invention is directed to a device (100) for determining a value of a pulse-wave velocity in a blood vessel under measurement, that comprises a first measurement data input unit (102) configured to receive data indicative of vessel geometry parameters of the blood vessel, a second measurement data input unit (104) configured to receive data representing a measured transmission velocity amount of pressure waves in the blood vessel in presence of an elongated device having predetermined spatial extension values and a pulse-wave velocity determination unit (106), which is configured to determine, using the vessel-geometry data and the spatial extension values of the elongated device, a geometry factor dependent on a cross-sectional area of the blood vessel that remains available for blood flow in the presence of the elongated device and to determine and output the value of the pulse-wave velocity using the second measurement data and the geometry factor.
