The present invention relates to a method for constructing a mattress to protect riverbanks and slope surfaces. More specifically, the mattress includes: a mesh type mattress which includes a coupling means to interconnect multiple lattice mesh sheets at predetermined intervals in order to space the sheets apart and form multiple cell space units in a honeycomb-shape and a gap maintaining pin which is in the shape of a bar having a predetermined length to have both ends coupled with the coupling means being spaced apart in the cell space units in order to maintain the shape of the cell space units. According to the present invention, the honeycomb-shaped cell space units formed by unfolding the mesh-shaped sheets are filled with soil or gravel easily obtained around a river in order to be used as a structure for protecting the slope surfaces or riverbanks. Accordingly, the present invention can save users trouble of obtaining a separate material for embankment construction, concrete block production, and quarry development, thereby preventing environmental destruction and resource loss. The present invention also reduces costs to enhance the cost-effectiveness. The honeycomb-shaped cell units are formed by unfolding the sheets to enable an operator to easily form the structure manually.
