A food composition for ruminant animals, in particular for the protection of biologically active substances from rumen degradation, characterized in that it comprises the following components:- triglycerides of saturated fatty acids C6 - C22 in amounts ranging between 5-65%- calcium salts of fatty acids C6 - C22 in amounts ranging between 30-90%- saturated fatty acids C6 - C22 in amounts ranging between 5-50%,said amounts being expressed by weight and being referred to the sum of said components.
