PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photoacoustic apparatus that generates image data whose relation to a position of a blood vessel is easy to understand by measuring a biological characteristic distribution of a subjects deep region, and is capable of reducing influence of a deviation of a measurement position.SOLUTION: There is used a photoacoustic apparatus including: a light source capable of individually radiating light having a first wavelength at which absorption coefficients of oxyhemoglobin and deoxyhemoglobin are the same and light having a second wavelength differing from the first wavelength an acoustic detector that, for each of beams of light having the first wavelength and second wavelength, receives an acoustic wave caused by the light having been absorbed by a subject and converts the acoustic wave to an electric signal an absorption coefficient distribution generation unit for acquiring an absorption coefficient distribution inside the subject, by using the electric signal a blood vessel position identification unit for identifying a blood vessel position, from an absorption coefficient distribution with respect to the first wavelength a biological characteristic distribution generation unit for acquiring a biological characteristic distribution, from absorption coefficient distributions of light having the first wavelength and second wavelength and a trimming unit for trimming the biological characteristic distribution on the basis of the identified blood vessel position.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
