PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide silicon oxide-coated zinc oxide in which elution of zinc ions from zinc oxide particles can be suppressed, a production method of the silicon oxide-coated zinc oxide, a silicon oxide-coated zinc oxide-containing composition, and a cosmetic.SOLUTION: The silicon oxide-coated zinc oxide comprises zinc oxide particles the surfaces of which are coated with a dense silicon oxide coating. The zinc oxide particles have an average particle diameter of 1 nm or more and 50 nm or less. Abundance ratios Qand Qof silicon in the silicon oxide coating in a Qenvironment and in a Qenvironment, respectively, satisfy Q+Q&ge0.6 and Q/(Q+Q)&ge0.5. A decomposition rate of Brilliant Blue induced by photocatalytic activity of the zinc oxide particles is 3% or less.
