This invention provides a use of an extract of tea comprising theaflavin-3-gallate and theaflavin-3'-gallate, for decreasing the effects of delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) through reducing secretion of oxidative stress marker 8-isoprostane in blood in a subject after exercise, wherein the extract is an extract of black or oolong tea comprising at least 10% by weight theaflavins in a physiologically acceptable carrier and is selected from the group consisting of an ethyl acetate extract, an ethanol extract, a membrane filtrate and a super critical Co 2 extract.
