An anti-obesity agent or a glucose tolerance-ameliorating agent containing abacterium belonging to the genus Bifidobacterium as an active ingredient,wherein thebacterium belonging to the genus Bifidobacterium exhibits a conversion ratefromlinoleic acid into conjugated linoleic acid of not more than 10%. The presentinvention isable to provide an anti-obesity agent and a glucose tolerance-amelioratingagent that areeffective for the prevention or treatment of obesity or the amelioration ofglucosetolerance and also exhibit superior safety, as well as providing foods orbeveragescontaining these agents. Further, the present invention is also able toprovide a bacteriumof the genus Bifidobacterium, and in particular a Bifidobacterium breve, thatis effectivefor the prevention or treatment of obesity or the amelioration of glucosetolerance andalso exhibits superior safety, as well as providing a pharmaceuticalcompositioncontaining this bacterium.
