The invention relates to a detection device for detecting a sign of life for an aquatic animal and a detection method thereof. Primarily, the detection device comprises a controller circuit a sensing device electrically connected to the controller circuit. A microprocessor, a signal generating circuit and a data reading circuit are built in the controller circuit, and the sensing device is arranged on an aquatic animal, thus an electrical loop is formed between the aquatic animal and the controller circuit. A signal is output by the signal generating circuit to the sensing device, and the voltage value generated form the body impedance of the aquatic animal corresponding to the output signal of the signal generating circuit is received by the data reading circuit. Furthermore, a method using the device to detect a sign of life of an aquatic animal is provided.
