(-)-(S) -3- (3'-Hydroxy) -butylphthalide (compound represented by formula I) and an ester formed from it and an acid can be used for the treatment and prevention of cerebral ischemic disease. It can be seen from experiments that it has a function of improving sleep. An acid refers to a pharmaceutically acceptable inorganic acid or organic acid. Inorganic acid refers to nitric acid, sulfuric acid or phosphoric acid. In addition to the acid radical, the organic acid contains at least one of an amino group, a hydroxyl group, and a carboxyl group. Neither the compounds of formula I nor their esters are water soluble. The ester formed from the compound and acid is further reacted with an acid or base to produce a salt that is water soluble and used to prepare an injectable. Experiments show that salt does not irritate vessels.
