Disclosed is a head-down and usage posture detection system using a direction sensor of a handheld device, in which a posture detection system is implemented by programming. The posture detection system is installed in prevalent handheld devices like smart phones and tablets in order to make use of the powerful computing capability and the advantage of being compact and small and easy to carry of the handheld device to realize the posture detection system. When put into operation, the posture detection system accesses information from a direction sensor built in the handheld device in order to perform detection of head-down or usage posture.
