The method includes providing a sliced bacon product comprising, an elongate flexible support sheet 42, and a single row of slices of bacon 40 extending along the support sheet 42 in one direction. Each slice 40 has two longitudinal edges extending transverse to said one direction and adjacent longitudinal edges of successive slices of bacon 40 overlap each other by 10 to 60 % of the width of the slices. The method also includes placing at least one sliced bacon product on a surface of a baking tray 50, and cooking the sliced bacon product in a cooking apparatus. During the cooking process the overlapping slices of bacon 40 shrink and progressively reduce the amount of overlap of the overlapping slices. This method reduces handling of slices of bacon when placing the slices of bacon on a baking tray. It also optimises utilisation of the surface of the baking tray 50 for cooking bacon.
