A monitoring device (10) for monitoring the location of an animal, the monitoring device comprising: a GPS receiver (20) for receiving GPS signals; a processor (24) communicatively coupled to the GPS receiver and operable to continuously determine the position, speed, and direction of travel of the animal relative to a target; a stimulus unit (34) for selectively applying a stimulus to the animal in response to signals received from the processor; characterized in that: the processor (24) is programmed such that: (a) if it is determined that the position of the animal in relation to the target is less than a predetermined distance and the speed of the animal in relation to the target is within of a predetermined range and the direction of travel of the animal is within a predetermined orientation relative to the target, then a signal indicative of application of a non-aversive stimulus to the animal is generated; (b) when it is determined that (i) the speed of the animal relative to the target is outside the predetermined range, or (ii) the direction of travel of the animal changes to be outside the predetermined orientation or direction of travel of the animal changes by more than a predetermined amount, a signal indicative of elimination of the non-aversive stimulus is generated; and (c) if neither (b) (i) nor (b) (ii) are applied, a signal is generated indicative of first removing the non-aversive stimulus followed by the application of an aversive stimulus to the animal.Un dispositivo de control (10) para controlar la ubicación de un animal, comprendiendo el dispositivo de control: un receptor GPS (20) para recibir señales de GPS; un procesador (24) acoplado comunicativamente al receptor de GPS y operable para determinar continuamente la posición, velocidad y dirección de desplazamiento del animal en relación con un objetivo; una unidad de estímulos (34) para aplicación selectiva de un estímulo al animal en respuesta a señales recibidas desde el procesador; cara
