A drive shaft assembly intended to extend between an internal combustion engine and a garden tool such as a line trimmer or edge cutter. The assembly (10) includes a first shaft (11) which is rotatably supported in a first tubular member (13). The first shaft has a first end portion (15) which has a socket (16) with a slot (21) and has guide surfaces (19, 20) converging to the slot. The assembly further has a second shaft (12) which is rotatably supported in a second tubular member (14) and is engaged coaxially with the first shaft. The second shaft has an end portion (26) which engages with the slot of the first shaft member and has a flange (27) which is guided by the guide surfaces. The tubular members enclose the end parts of the shafts when the shafts are coupled.
