An apparatus and method for generating an electrical signal for use inbiomedicalapplications, including two timing-interval generators, each optionallydriving a multistepsequencer； analog, digital or hybrid means for combining the resulting timedsignals intoa complex electrical signal； optional filtering means for blocking directcurrent, removingselected frequency components from the resulting signal, and/or providingvoltage step-upif needed； and conductive means for coupling the resulting signal to a humanor animalbody, food, beverage or other liquid, cell, tissue culture, or pharmaceuticalmaterial, inorder to relieve pain, stimulate healing or growth, enhance the production ofspecificbiochemicals, or devitalize selected types of organisms.
