PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antidepressant without having side effects and capable of being lightly taken on a daily basis.SOLUTION: By using a medium containing a plant fibrous raw material, the mycelia of basidiomycete is cultured, and en extract material obtained by extracting the cultured material therefrom and containing sugars, proteins and water soluble lignin is used as an active ingredient of the antidepressant. As the plant fibrous raw material, a material prepared from the plants of Graminaceae is preferable, and the material prepared from 1 kind or &ge2 kinds selected from bagasse, the stems and leaves of maize, wheat bran, rice bran, rice straws, cogongrasses, striped bamboo and bamboo is more preferable. As the basidiomycete, Ganogerma lucidum, Pachyma hoelen, Elfvingia applanata, Coriolus versicolor, Lentinula edodes, Ilisha elongata, Grifola fondosa, Flammulina velutipes, Lyophylum simeji, Hericium erinaceum, Agaricus blazei, etc., can be used.
