The present invention claims the use of confocally coupled fiber based spectrometer as an attachment for the slit lamp and biomicroscope assembly to facilitate the acquisition of spectrum on a selected spot on eyes. The slit lamp bio-microscope is an instrument used to examine the eye. Its use is crucial in determining the health of eyes, including the eyelid, sclera, conjunctiva, iris, natural crystalline lens, and cornea. The use of a spectrometer allows simultaneous quantization of color or fluorescence along with imaging. In this way, diagnosis that is based on change of color can be precisely quantized to facilitate remote diagnosis.
