The invention concerns a method for detecting at least one cardiac rhythm disturbance of a human or animal subject from a time series of intervals RR representative of the cardiac rhythm of the subject, extracted from a physiological signal (S). The method comprises a step (S07) of characterising the time series with at least one descriptive variable (Vb), the value of which is calculated from a derivative series (Sj2, Sj3, Sj4, Sj5, Sj6, Sj7) of which the constituent element is a discrete derivative of the order of 1 or greater than 1 of the interval RR of the time series.L'invention concerne un procédé de détection d'au moins un trouble du rythme cardiaque d'un sujet humain ou animal à partir d'une série temporelle d'intervalles RR représentative du rythme cardiaque du sujet, extraite d'un signal physiologique (S). Le procédé comprend une étape de caractérisation (S07) de la série temporelle avec au moins une variable descriptive (Vb) dont la valeur est calculée à partir d'une série dérivée (Sj2, Sj3, Sj4, Sj5, Sj6, Sj7) dont l'élément constitutif est une dérivée discrète d'ordre 1 ou supérieur à 1 de l'intervalle RR de la série temporelle.
