The system is configured with at least one electric heater for heating the aerosol-forming substrate to form an aerosol. The heater is configured with a heating element of a first cross section electrically connected to the plurality of elongated support elements. Each support element has a larger cross-section than the first cross-section. At least one of the support elements is integrally formed with the heating element.
