The present invention pertains to: a paddy-rice seed that includes at least one type of powder selected from among metal oxides (brown iron oxide, zinc oxide, and tin oxide); a method for manufacturing a coated paddy-rice seed by spraying a resin emulsion onto a mixture of the powder containing the metal oxide and the paddy-rice seed, and drying after forming on the rice-seed surface a coating layer including the metal oxide powder and the resin emulsion; a method for manufacturing a coated paddy-rice seed by mixing the paddy-rice seed and an emulsion paste including a resin that includes the metal oxide powder, and drying after forming on the rice-seed surface a coating layer including the metal oxide powder and the resin emulsion; and a composition for a paddy-rice seed coating containing the metal oxide powder and the resin emulsion.
