The apparatus for sterilizing a handrail of an escalator according to the present invention comprises: a main body which is provided with an opening hole and a plurality of detection sensors a handrail sterilization unit which is provided in the main body and injects sterilization water to a handrail of an escalator through the opening hole a sterilization water absorption unit which is provided with the main body and includes an absorption unit provided to go up and down through the opening hole and absorbing the sterilization water on the handrail and an electricity storage unit which is provided in the main body, stores electric energy generated by using rotation force of the handrail, and supplies the stored electric energy to the handrail sterilization unit and the sterilization water absorption unit.
