FIELD: medicine.SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, particularly to cardiology and pulmonology, and can be used to determine the severity of the condition of patients with idiopathic and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (IPH and CTEPH). An echocardiographic examination is performed to determine systolic pressure in the pulmonary artery (PASP) by formula: PASP = mGDsTV + Pra, where mGDsTV is the maximum systolic gradient on the tricuspid valve, Pra is pressure in right atrium. Diastolic pressure in the pulmonary artery (PADP) is determined by formula: PADP=(3×avDPA-PASP)/2, where avDPA = avGDsTV + Pra, where avGDsTV is the average systolic gradient on the tricuspid valve; pulse pressure (ΔP) in pulmonary artery, systolic volume (SV) is calculated by formula: SV=πr2×VTI, where r is radius of right ventricular outlet tract, VTI is integral of linear velocity of blood flow in right ventricular outlet tract; integral stiffness: ΔP/SV; maximum (Dmax) and minimum (Dmin) internal diameters of the pulmonary artery without considering its walls. Measurements are made on the internal diameter of the pulmonary artery without considering its walls, calculating ΔD = Dmax-Dmin. Then calculated by the formulas: pulmonary artery deformation values: (ΔD/Dmin)×100 %, elasticity factor of pulmonary artery: ΔD/(Dmin×ΔP), integral elasticity of the pulmonary artery: SV/ΔP, stiffness index β of the pulmonary artery: ln(PASP/PADP)/(ΔD/Dmin), Peterson stiffness modulus of the pulmonary artery: (Dmin×ΔP)/ΔD, and the pulmonary artery deformation values in the patients: with IPH≤5.8 %, with CTEPH≤6.7 %; coefficient of extensibility of pulmonary artery: at IPH≤0.8×10-5 Pa-1, at CTEPH≤1.0×10-5 Pa-1; of the integral elongation of the pulmonary artery: with IPH≤0.9 ml/mm Hg, with CTEPH≤1.1 ml/mm Hg; hardness index β of pulmonary artery: at IPH>;18.3, with CTEPH>;13.8; Peterson stiffness modulus of the pulmonary artery: at IPH>;1.3×105 Pa, with CTEPH>;1.0×105 Pa; integral
